I code valid HTML. I write clean code. I design for short download times, and fast user-response. Studies have shown that users give your site about 3 seconds on average for something to appear before they start to hit the back button. Give your site a chance, and slim down those images. I'm not advocating a text-only web here, in fact, I'm not even saying to cut back on the number of graphics you use! Optimisation is the key. Many images on the web are unoptimised, leading to a graphic that is as much as twice the size it needs to be, increasing download times and user frustration.

WSYIWYG. The acronym for "What You See Is What You Get". Editors that perform this task are largely useless for creating lean, fast pages (The notable exception to this generalization is Macromedia's Dreamweaver). All of the websites I create have been hand optimised for quick loading times. If you want the highest quality, it's best done by hand!
